Now what? One of the more challenging aspects of the TRAS system for officers is interpreting the score in a meaningful way and then navigating their way through the case planning session with the client. Where do I start? What should I say? How do I guide this conversation toward the criminogenic needs? Many officers struggle with steering the conversation in a direction that makes sense to the client. This session will provide you with guidance on how to navigate the case planning session in a way that increases buy in from your client, while creating a plan that can be referenced in a purposeful manner during all future interactions. Tue, July 30, 2024, 01:00 PM-02:30 PMThe Heart of a TeamKirsta MeltonFounder & Chief Executive Officer, Institute to Combat TraffickingNothing is harder or more worthwhile than building a dedicated and devoted team. No complex problem can be solved with one perspective, one set of hands or one individual’s effort. It takes the rough and tumble of ideas, differing skill sets and perspectives, conflict, and eventually mutual respect to put together a group of people who can make that difference. Great teams focus on the big picture, challenge the status quo, break barriers, and innovate. They move people and organizations forward, something the government desperately needs. Yet “the way we have always done things” grinds away at the hope, energy, momentum, and creativity needed to fuel the work. This seminar talks openly about the challenges of building successfully within a governmental entity, the bureaucratic hurdles, personnel pitfalls, practical solutions, moments of success and the constant watchfulness required to protect the heart of a team. If not for the persistence of a probation officer, two brutal traffickers who kidnapped, tied down, drugged, raped and sold a 13-year-old girl for weeks, might never have been brought to justice. The presentation will outline the challenges surmounted to obtain an investigation, the handicaps that accompany a 10-month-old crime scene, a lack of forensic evidence, key witnesses with significant criminal history, and the complications that come with trying a “first” of anything in your region. The case study will empower participants to tackle human trafficking cases that rely on witnesses that in typical child abuse cases might be considered unreliable or unpresentable in court. Thu, August 1, 2024, 03:00 PM-04:30 PMBreaking Point: Leadership in Moments of Crisis David Yebra TDCJ Director of Training and Leadership Development Division No other moment in history has experienced emergency situations at the frequency we do today. This has required organizations to shift their preparation mindset from IF something happens, to WHEN something happens. Lockdowns, weather emergencies, and many other critical incidents require exceptional leadership skills because of the sheer layers to the event and the depth of the impact on teams. How prepared are you to lead your organization mentally, emotionally, physically, and operationally when a crisis ensues? There are an infinite number of trainings available to the masses about how to survive emergency situations, but very little on how to LEAD pre-, during, and post-critical incident. This session will focus solely on how you can prepare now to be the kind of leader every team and organization wants at a time they need you most.Click Here
